It is described as follows:
Call No. ACNMAH 0375 H. H. French Tallapoosa (Ga.) Photoprints, ca. 1880 Medium : Silver albumen(?) paper prints, mounted on cardboard, 8" x 10". Scope and Content: 14 photographs taken in the town of Tallapoosa, Georgia, ca. 1880, each stamped with the photographer's name. Subjects are homes and businesses, including the Tallapoosa Land, Mining & Manufacturing Co., the Lithia Springs hotel site, a railroad bridge and the Tallapoosa River, a meeting of the Ladies' Aid Society at the Episcopal Mission, the Tallapoosa Glass Works, residences, etc; also a burro and wagon with two men in front of H. H. French's photographic studio. Provenance: Donated to the Division of Domestic Life by Mrs. Franklin Chace, Deed of Gift signed Oct. 26, 1974 Restrictions: ...Probably public domain, copyrights expired. A disappointing promiseA tantalizing posting

failed to keep its promise. None of the people we reached who attempted to take
advantage of the solicitation ever received any response. The original notice, dated
April 13, 2004 at 08:06:38, read in part:
I have a[c]quired a packet of pictures from a development Co. in the 1880 timeframe. included in this packet there are 36 pictures of building sites, Residences, and People. I will list the names that appear on the pictures. If anyone would like copies of these pictures i will scan them and send them to you. The pictures are not the best quality but i will do my best to enhance them if you would like... |
