Hall County Hall County, Georgia was formed in 1818 from Franklin and Jackson Counties, and Cherokee Lands.  It was named for Lyman Hall (1724-90), American Revolutionary War leader, born in Wallingford, Connecticutt.   He was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and the 9th Governor of Georgia who served in 1783-85.

The following cities/towns are in Hall County: Gainesville (the County seat), Lula, Flowery Branch, Clermont, Gillsville, Chestnut Mountain, Chicopee, Murrayville, Oakwood and New Holland.  Hall County is home for University of North Georgia, Gainesville Campus and Brenau University.
