I am looking for any information on the John Rolin Brooks and Fayenettie "Nettie" Josephine Devaney Brooks family. They lived in Gordon Co at the time of mymothers birth in Nov. 1909 and were still there in June 22, 1910. I have a card written by Fayenettie to her sister Magie Weeks and D. D. Weeks in Ducktown, TN. I thought there might be a census that would have their names on it for 1910. I feel that they lived out the year there as they had a crop planted and were cutting wheat in June 1910. Sincerely, Nettie Marie Kent Burt, daughter of Lula Belle Brooks Kent, daughter of John Rolin and Fayenettie Brooks. Thank you. |

Submitted by : James Henry Bynum Email : [email protected] James Henry Bynum - [email protected] - My paternal grand-father was also James Henry Bynum. He was born Oct. 3, 1860 in Calhoun, Ga., the only son of Wm. Henry Adair Bynum (born 1828 in Pickens, S. Carolina) m. (c) 1850 Elizabeth J. Nicely (born in Forsyth County, Ga., eldest dau. of David W. and Catharine Denning Nicely, m.10/29/1843.) Wm. Henry was, at least, the first son of Luke Bynum who is enumerated in the 1830 census for Pendleton District, SC. He may be the William Bynum listed in the Rabun County Poor School in 1842--along with brother James and sister Mary?(WHAB later named his son James, his eldest daughter Mary Frances. Other daus. were Susan Jane, 1854; Julia Ann, 1858 Sarah Elizabeth, 1862; Harriet, 1866.) WHAB died 12/1/1866 in Eldorado, Illinois; he was 38. He may have been a wain-wright. My grandfather said the family lost much property at the Civil War, including several slaves. We wonder if Nancy Bynum of neighboring Murray Co. may have been his mother. Our most pressing need is Luke's parents. In SC he lived near Jesse, James, and Benjamin Bynum. Our best guess is Luke is a grandson of Wm. H. Bynum (spouse: Frances Person) in Southampton, Va., 1763-1838. Any advice? |

Anne Wyatt
My name is Anne Wyatt. We have family records that indicate that my great grandfather, William Henry Clay Lloyd lived in Fairmount in the 1860's. We believe he had a store, ran the post office, and perhaps other things as well. He and several of his children are buried in a small cemetery off Hwy 411((I think) between I-75 and Fairmount. I and other members of my family have visited there and have care for it for a number of years. the people who now own the property are taking care of it. There are also some other names in the cemetery -Irwin family. We are not sure of the relationships as my great-grandfather preceded his wife in death and she moved back to Columbia County, GA where her family was from. Contact with the Lloyds was lost. He was also the tax collector for Gordon County in the 1870's. We have an original certificate signed by the Governor acknowledging this. We also have copies of his report cards where he was a student at UGA in late 1860's. The real jewel is a small leather bound book which contains records of his store accounts. If you have any information that would help us in finding out more about the family history, I would appreciate it so much. If any info that I might have be of value, I would pass it on. Thank you. |
