Katie M. Montgomery

Katie M. Montgomery 91 of Ravenna passed on to her heavenly home Friday December 12, 2003 at Robinson Memorial Hospital. Born July 16, 1912 in Whitfield Co., GA to Benjamin E. and Mary (Jones) Joyce. She moved with her family to Sugar Valley, Gordon Co., Georgia as an infant. She had lived in Ravenna since 1960 and had been a nursery school worker and member of the Beebe Rebecca Lodge #405.
 

She is the mother of Eva (John) Roach of MI., Janette (Lew) Nelson of TN., Dale (Margaret) Montgomery of Ravenna and Larry (Vicki) Montgomery of FL. Grandmother of 12, Great grandmother of 19, Great Great grandmother of 1. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Willie W. in 1971, son Willie W. Jr. in 1945, 2 sisters and 5 brothers.

Friends may call Sunday 2 - 5 at the Shorts Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel where funeral services will be held at 11am Monday December 15,2003 with Rev. Charles Stacy officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearer's were: Grandsons, Larry Roach, James "Randy" McGregor, Bob McGregor, Grandson in law Jim Stacy, Great grandsons, Chris and Keith Smith.

Willie W. Montgomery

Willie Walker Montgomery, 71, a resident of Ravenna since 1957, died Thursday ( August 29, 1971 ) at Robinson Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart attack. He resided at 626 Cleveland Rd. Ravenna. Born August 16,1899 in Whitfield Co., Georgia, he married Katie Joyce, daughter of Benjamin E. and Mary Jones Joyce of Sugar Valley, Gordon Co., Georgia on September 15,1929, and lived in Detroit, Mich. five years before coming to Ravenna. He retired in 1968 from the Chrysler Corp. in Twinsburg where he was employed as a pipe fitter. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mirando City, Texas. He leaves his wife; Katie; two daughters, Mrs. John (Eva) Roach of Royal Oak, Michigan; and Mrs. James (Janette) McGregor of Detroit, Mich.; two sons, Delano (Dale) of Ravenna and Larry of Akron, and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:30 P.M. Sunday at the William L. Shorts Funeral Home, where friends may call from 7-9 P.M. today and from 7-9 P.M. Saturday. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Willie and Katie Mae Joyce Montgomery went to Mirando City, Texas a few days after they married and stayed one year. In 1930 they returned to Sugar Valley, Gordon Co., Georgia and lived there until 1935, they moved back to Texas and then moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1953.

W. W. Montgomery Of Mirando Dies July 28, 1945 At Mercy Hospital, Laredo, Texas. Willie Walker Montgomery, Jr., 14, born January 23, 1931 in Sugar Valley,Gordon Co., Georgia, son of W. W. Montgomery of the Magnolia Pipe Line Co. and Mrs. Montgomery of Mirando City, who was critically injured in an auto accident at Mirando City Friday afternoon and brought to Laredo same evening for medical treatment, died at Mercy Hospital Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. He suffered a broken right arm and internal injuries. His parents and relatives were at his bedside in the hospital from the time he arrived here until his death. He was a native of Sugar Valley, Ga., and was a freshman in the Mirando City High School. Surviving him beside his parents are two brothers, Delano and Larry Gene and two sisters Eva Nell and Janette Montgomery, also other relatives. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Baptist Church in Mirando City, with interment in the City Cemetery in Laredo.

Youth is Buried
Funeral services for Willie Walker Montgomery, Jr. 14, son of W. W. Montgomery of the Magnolia Pipe Line Co. and Mrs. Montgomery of Mirando City, were held Monday afternoon. He was injured in an automobile accident in Mirando City Friday afternoon, died at Mercy Hospital Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. He was a freshman in the Mirando City High School. Services were conducted by the Rev. J. E. Black, pastor, from the Mirando City Baptist Church to the city cemetery in Laredo.
