He was a graduate of West Point; had a law practice; served in the Georgia General Assembly as both a senator and a representative from Chatham County; founded and was the first president of what is today known as the Central of Georgia Railroad system. Gordon County, created in 1850, was named for him. Vanishing Georgia, Georgia Division of Archives and History, Office of Secretary of State. |
