Auraria

This old gold mining town, dating back to 1830, was also known as Knucklesville and Nuckollsville. It is located about 7 miles S W of Dahlonega, and about 60 miles N E of Atlanta.
During it's boom days, had a population of around 1000, but today has a much smaller population of about 50.

Dahlonega

County seat of Lumpkin County. Not a "real" Ghost Town.
Gold was discovered here around 1829. In 1838 the United States government built a branch mint here to produce gold coins. The mint was closed in 1861.
Today Dahlonega is a quiet town capitalizing on its golden past.
