Samuel Sewell, a licensed preacher became quite prominent among preachers of 
1822/18.  He possedded a most remarkable voice, which never seemed to tire in 
proclaiming the Word of God.  He raised a large family of sons and daughters, 
who descendants still live in and about the Mt. Gilead, Ben Hill area.  A 
dauughter married a Mr. Howell, who lived near Adamsville, and it was through 
her efforts that Howell Chapel was organized just over the Chattahoochee River 
in Cobb County, which is still in existance today, yr. 1912.

There were four sons in the Sewell family, Isaac, John, Samuel and Pickney-and 
all were menbers of Mt. Gilead.  Isaac was quite prominent in the church He had 
one son, P. I. Sewell, who was a splendid singer, and led the choir until he 
moved to Temple, GA.  He there raised a family.  One of his sosn later became a 
noted writer of religious songs and an evangelistic singer.  Samuel Sewell, 
Sr., also came from Franklin County, GA  shortly after Rev. J. M. Smith.
