LEE | Date: 5/14/02 12:24:30 AM Eastern Daylight Time From: [email protected] (Donald Lee) Hello! This same father and son (Henry Sr and Henry Jr) are believed to be identified in 1840 Forsyth Co Census on Pg 266 with Henry Sr marked in the 60-70 age category and Henry Jr marked in the 15-20 age category. Also believed that this same pair are identified on Pg 344 of 1830 Gwinnett Co Census with Henry Sr marked in the 50-60 age bracket and Henry Jr marked in the 5-10 age bracket. There is another male in the household identified in the 15-20 age bracket, but I have no idea who this might be. The children of Rody Carr and Henry Lee are found again in the 1860 Cherokee Co, AL Census, Pg 363-364, dwelling no. 1164. The Head of Household is listed as Malisa Lee, age 40, which may or may not be the same person as Rody A.M (could the "M" stand for Malisa?) Carr - the age is off by 5 years from what you would expect (should be 35 instead of 40). Neither Henry Lee Sr nor Henry Lee Jr are listed in the 1834 Forsyth County (State) Census, so it seems that they left Gwinnett Co sometime after 1834 and arrived prior to 1840 to be counted in that Federal Census. Any help that can be given will be greatly appreciated! Don Lee Athens, AL [email protected] |

McAFEE | E. C. was the son of John Whitaker McAfee and the nephew of Alexander Coles McAfee E. C. McAfee's house sat on the Ridge in Cumming. It was the old house with the 2 rock chimneys that was up by the water tower. According to Garland Bagley, he found an ad offering it for sale in 1842. Apparently there were old slave cabins behind it until they built 400. It was burnt by the Fire Department as a practice exercise....Donna |

PACE | [email protected] Jon Pace http://pacesociety.org/ My Great, Great Grandfather, Jonathan PACE, came to Forsyth County and married Mary THOMPSON in Feb 1840. They lived in the Ocee community in what became Milton County and now Fulton County. They are buried in the Old Bethlehem Cemetery in middle of the Windward Development along with several unmarried children. I have a large amount of oral history gathered from his granddaughters. I was introduced to family history by Corrine Mae PACE who was an assistant teacher at the Bacon School in Forsyth County in 1926. Corrine and her sister, Ruby Lee PACE were school teachers in Marietta for over 40 years. They are buried with their parents at Midway Methodist Cemetery in Forsyth. The list of surnames that his children married include DOSS, BROOKS, HARDEMAN (HARDMAN), VAUGHN, MOSTELLER, LONG, HANSARD, WEBB, TURLEY. His grandchildren were married to surnames ROSS, STOKES, PRIEST, HEMBREE, LECROY, RUCKER. Most of these families came out of Forsyth and Milton and settled in Atlanta or Cobb County. I am a VP of the Pace Society of America and serve as their web master. Married (1) on July 9, 1840 in Forsyth Co., to William J. MARTIN; (2) Ezekiel P. HARVEY, January 22, 1863 in Gwinnett Co., GA. Mother of ten children: eight Martin and two Harvey. |
PRUITT | [email protected] Brenda GILBERT Abbott My grandmother was Minnie Inez Pruitt, the youngest of 10 children born to Tillman M. Pruitt, b. in Spartanburg S.C.in 1833 and Martha A. McCain Pruitt. He was the s/o William Pruitt., b. in SC in 1807 and wife (UNK maiden name). He had a brother, Calvin and a half-brother by the name of Zilmon. Zilmon's mother was UNK Daskey. William was the s/o Benjamin Pruitt,b. in SC, prior to 1893 and Judah UNK. Benjamin was the s/o Richard Pruitt, b. in 1748 in Luxenbury VA and Francis (Fannie) Sandbridge. Richard was the s/o William, b. between 1725-1730 in Halifax, VA and Judith Dudley. William was the s/o Thomas Pruett, Sr., b.in 1693 in Henrico County, VA and wife Mary Magdalene (Chastain) Ducray. Thomas, Sr. was the s/o Henry Pruett/Prewitt,Sr. ,b.in York Co., Va in 1954 and Rebecca Ann Dabbs/Dobbs. Henry was the s/o Thomas Prewett who was born in Eng.in 1616 and UNK wife, See note on Immigrant ancestor: On May 6, 1636, Joane Bennett, widow, received 450 acres in Charles River Co., VA. upon the new Poqueson River, east towards the bays, west into the woods, north up9on the Pinye Swamp (River) and south upon Robert Thrasher. 50 acres due for trasfer of 8 persons: Ann Winter, John Roote, Jon Marshall, Thomas Prewitt, Andrew Chant, Jon Morris, and Pole Carplights. At frist, land could only be had by paying the passage of settlers too poor to pay their own; the man who paid the transportation cost got 50 acres of land for each person brought to Virginia. The transported person usually had to spend 5 years in working out the costs of his passage, but at the end of that time, he or she also received 50 acres of land. On June 2, 1636, Thomas Privett was granted 50 acres of land in Charles river Co., VA, being a neck of ground at the New Poqueson, west upon William Clarke a creek, then east upon Thomas Harwood a creek, The said 50 acres of land being due unto him the said Thomas Privett for the transportation of one servant into this colony. This seems strange that an indentured servant would be transporting an indentured servant to do his work for him." In spite of all this info, I am still seeking info on the wives, siblings, spouses, etc. of these men. Thanks for any help! |
