Lineage on Irene from Lorene Veal with many thanks

Irene Moench born Bessie Irene Garrett b. 1903, d. 17 Jan 1981 ( buried Alta Vista, Gainesville??)

Father: William Rufus Garrett, b. 28 June 1879, d. 24 Nov 1962, bu. Alta Vista , Gainesville
Mother: Maude Lucinda Wallis, b. 6 Jan 1882, d. 15 Dec 1869, bu. Alta Vista, Gainesville.
(She was the daughter of George Lewis Wallis & Hattie Laura Margie Bell Hughes)

Grandfather: Seaborn Green Garrett, b. 1 Sept 1855, d. 9 July 1948, bu Alta Vista Gainsville.
Married: 3 August 1876
Grandmother: Melinda Jane Patterson, b. 8 July 1856, d. 11 June 1933, bu Alta Vista, Gainesville.
(She was the daughter of Hiram Patterson & Nancy Louisa Singleton Patterson)

Great-Grandfather: John S. Garrett, b. 14 Oct 1818, d. 16 June 1900, bu. Salem Bapt Ch., Forsyth Co Ga.
Married: 16 Jan 1840 Bk A, Pge 84, Forsyth Co Ga
Great-Grandmother: Elizabeth [Betsy] Bennett, b. 6 Sept 1819, d. 30 Dec. 1902, bu Salem Bapt Ch., Forsyth Co Ga

From Irene's letters in the 1970's: I thought that since Irene asked her grandpa (Seaborn Green Garrett son of John S.) about the Garretts that you might enjoy any new imput you could gain from her letters. The letters were what her family told her that she was trying to reconcile with what she could prove. An "any suggestions letter".

Note 1
Daniel's children given by Grandpa, but I have added the dates as I found them.
Hendrix born about 1813 md Louisa or Louvisa Foster in Forsyth Co 9/30/1841.
John S. Garrett b. 14 Oct 1818 SC d. 16 Jun 1900 md Elizabeth Bennett. 11 Jan 1840 . Both buried at Salem.
(It has been pointed out that in quoting Irene's letter I typed the date as 11 Jan 1840. I'm sorry - that's what she said. I will refer you to Marriage Book A p. 84 where the date is given as 16 Jan 1840. Any doubts, the original is available on a microfilm copy at the Probate Court Forsyth County.)
Satiriah Garrett called Aunt Tiery married Allen Powell 4/2/1842. She did not live long after her marriage, but the Mary Powell mentioned in Daniel's Will is her daughter. I think it was this same Allen Powell who married Easter Bennett 25 Jan 1847. They lived in Cherokee or Cobb Co.>br> Jeptha M. Garrett md Susanah Stovall 21 Jan 1849. They are supposed to have moved to Tyler, Texas and died there. The 1850 census of Forsyth gave Jeptha living in the household of Mary Stovall, but did not have Susannah listed.
A son they called Uncle Zayery never married, died in Stockton, Calif. An uncle of mine said his name was Isaiah and they just called him Zayery.
Mourning Evaline Garrett married Jasper Green and they moved to Arkansas.
Daniel Newman Garrett. md Eliza A. Smith 6/20/1886.
still Irene's letter---From the census, it looks like Daniel might have had one more daughter - had 2 girls <10 in 1820 and in 1830 only one in this age group.

Note 2
From Irene: May 10, 1973
Years ago, my grandfather told me that Daniel's father was Miles Garrett and Miles' wife must have been named Susan and that she was called Sukey. A few years before Grandpa died he wasn't too sure about who Daniel's father was but he knew there was a Miles in there close someway. One of my Aunts says Miles was Daniel's father, and so did this gr. dau. of Hendrix. Grandpa said Daniel came to Georgia from Anderson Courthouse SC when his son John S. was just a tad of a boy and that Daniel was married three times. 1st to a Miss Stewart (or Stuart) and that she was the mother of Hendrix, John S. and maybe some of the others. 2nd wife: Emilee Jones (called Milly) and 3rd wife: ........Charity Ellison.......

Notes from Donna Parrish:
On the 1800 South Carolina there is a widow Sukey Garrett. There is a possibility that she was the widow of a Miles. It would take some searching to prove or disprove.

Referenced to David Garrett above, I have been unable to find a David Garrett in 1820/30/40 Greenville of Laurens Counties. SC. and consider him to be non-existant. And, Daniel is named in Solomon's estate papers. Emilia is named with the Garrett family in the Salem church records.

Rebecca A. Garrett
Roe Henderson (husband of T. A. formerly T. A. Garrett)

1834 Forsyth County Census T. T. Garrett 3

I ran [across] an obit in one of my newspaper columns in the late 70s about a Miles Garrett, but I am hunting the typed copy so I can scan and not retype. The Miles Garrett whose obituary I mention is not the father of Daniel. I found that in the old newspapers not from Irene.

Abstracted: Miles Garrett died 25 Feb 1896 in Hopkens Co. TX., born 1806, nearly 90. Born SC. moved to Forsyth in 1856. went to Texas in 1878. married twice. 14 children, 7 prededed him in death (no names). That is all it says of a genealogical nature. The rest is about character, his politics, etc.

He was on the 1850 Greenville Co SC census with Jane (Mary Jane Sears) on the 1860 census Forsyth with Margaret M.. Apparently the son of Nicholas Ware Garrett and Sarah (Bramblett by tradition). Nicholas Ware Garrett line appears in a book by Corine Putnam Mehringer of Chicago Illinois 1958. I borrowed Irene's copy of the book back then and returned it.

Miles cousin - John Garrett ( Mamicy Owings) also came to Forsyth Co.
