Grace Bagwell - 30/2006 I was told that Joseph Bagwell married Harriet Surliss 10 Mar 1860 in Georgia. The family was in Floyd County. What I found in the marriage records was a Joel Bagwell marrying Harriet L. C. Nowlen 10 May 1860. Is Harriet Surliss the same as Harriet L.C. Nowlen? Was the information I was given incorrect? Are Joel and Joseph Bagwell the same person? I also found a Joel Bagwell marryings Louisa Jane Shirely in 1859 which seems very close to 1860. Were there two Joel Bagwells? The Joseph Bagwell I am seeking was the son of William Bagwell and Elizabeth Rowe. There was a land transaction in 1847 in Floyd County, GA between John, Joseph, and Berry Bagwell. These are supposedly the oldest sons of William and Elizabeth. I need help sorting this out. Can anyone help?
Louise Griffith - 10/02/06 I am searching for any information on the family of Scott "Sweet" Waits or Waite and his wife Lizzie O. Potts Waits/Waite. They had children Clark, Doyce, Lillian, Ruth and Homer. The family moved to Floyd County between 1914 and 1919. They were living in the Livingston District in 1920 (Waite) and in 1930 (Waits). In particular I would like to know where Lizzie is buried (b. July 1888, Cleburne County AL; d. 20 Sep 1980 Floyd County GA). Would also like date of death of her husband and where he is buried. Any information regarding any members of this family would be appreciated.
Sue Weber - 09/04/06 I am researching the families of Isaac and Martha West and their son and family, Edward W. and Sarah Eugenia (Bwoman West who lived in Lindale, Floyd Co GA on the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses. Before that, they were in Haywood, Chattooga Co GA. Isaac West was born in SC in 1838 and his wife Martha was born 1845 in GA, Martha died before 1900 but Isaac was on the 1900 Floyd census with children Minnie and Robert M.
The children of Isaac and Martha West: (all born GA ) William Rugus: b. 1860; Edward W.: b. 1867; Lonella L.: b. 1869; A.E. (dau): b. 1873; Minnie L.: b. 1875; J.M. (son): b. 1877; Robert Marvin: b. 1879
Edward W. West married Sarah Eugenia Bowman c. 1889 in GA. She was born in Dirt Town Valley, daughter of Joel Hill and Ruth (Lyzer/Laro?) Bowman. She and Edward were on the censuses in Lindale, Floyd Co GA 1900 thru 1930. Their children were:
Mary Alice West: b. Jan 1890 in Lindale and died in Lindale in 1943. She worked in the cotton mills and was never married Joel Isaac West: born 8 Apr 1896; Lindale: died 6 Dec 1971, Lindale married Biddie Geraldine Coats after June 1917 in SC
Biddie was daughter of Gabriel & Elizabeth Coats (who were on the 1920 census for Lindale, Floyd Co GA. Gabriel was age 61 and his occupation was "salesman of fruit trees.") Joel and Biddie were on the 1920 census in Spartanburg Twp., Spartanburg Co SC and the 1930 census for Lindale, Floyd Co GA. Joel is shown as a weaver in the cotton mills in 1920 and 1930. Children for Joel and Biddie as of 1930 census were: William M. b. c. 1918 (not on the 1930 census with parents); Mary R. b. 1922; Sarah b. 1923
Since these families lived in Lindale, Floyd Co GA for over 40 years, I'm quite certain they are buried in the area, but have been unable to find a list for the cemeteries in the area. Thank you for any help you can give me. Would love to share information.
