A Tribute published in the pages of Rome News Tribune Rome, Georgia Now 12 1976 Memorial Obituary Entered Into Eternal Rest Thursday, Nov, 11, 1976 Mr. Phillips Melvin Eugene Phillips, 76, 26 Wallace St. died Thursday evening in a Rome hospital following an extending illness. He was born in Copperhill, Tenn. son of the late Jim and Mary Lagle Phillips. He had resided most of his life in Floyd County, and was a retired employe of West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Company, and a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of East Rome Baptist Church. Survivors include the widow, the former Maude M. Dodson, Rome; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Jarrell, Tallapoosa; four sons, Charles Phillips, William Phillips, Alvin Phillips, all of Rome. and Donald Phillips, Bessemer, Ala; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.ome Funeral services will be held at 2p.m. Sunday in East Rome Baptist Church with the Revs. J. Glen Boatner and Larry Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and at other hours will be at the residence, 26 Wallace St. Henderson-Frazier Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
