Lindsey Jack Nichols
Lindsey Jack Nichols, 85, of Nichols Road, Rome Rte. 4, died Monday at 7:15 p.m. in a Rome hospital following an illness of several years, his condition
having been critical for two weeks.
Mr. Nichols was born in Bartow County Jan. 22, 1883, son of the late Lindsey J. and Annette Craddock Nichols but had been a resident of Floyd County for
a number of years. He was a retired farmer and for several years owned and operated a cotton gin and grocery store at Spring Creek. He was a member of
Spring Creek Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class. His wife, the former Miss Nealie Branton, died April 27, 1968.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Evie Carroll, Mrs. Eunice Johnson, Mrs. Ruby Littlejohn and Mrs. Alice Wilbanks, all of Rome; one son Rufus
Nichols, Rome; one sister, Mrs. Lottie Smith, Rome; 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Spring Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Paul Willis and Wesley Terhune officiating. Interment will
be in Spring Creek Cemetery.
The body will remain at Jennings Funeral Home and the family will receive friends there from 7 until 9 p.m. today. On Wednesday, the body will lie in
state at the church from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour. The family will be at the residence of a daughter, Mrs. Alice Wilbanks, Nichols Road, Rome, Rte. 4.
Active pallbearers include Hoyt Carroll, Wade and Max Johnson, Jackie Littlejohn, Kenneth Nichols and Johnny Morris. Jack Morris and deacons of Spring Creek
Baptist Church will serve as an honorary escort.
