Thomas J. Griffies Dies Early Today
Thomas Jackson Griffies age 86, passed away this morning at the resi- dence
of his daughter, Mrs. Hugh Dempsey, 1803 Olmstead Street, Rome, following an
illness of three weeks. Born in Greensboro, GA., on May 12, 1866, he was the son
of the late William Jordan and Louise Freeman
Griffies, and was married to the former Nana Elizabeth Proctor in December of
1896. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Hugh Dempsey of Rome and Mrs.
Clyde Mullinax of Lindale; five sons, J. R. Griffies, H. J. Griffies, R. W.
Griffies E. C. Griffies, all of Rome; and C. P. Griffies
of Griffin; two sisters, Mrs. Dora Nichols and Mrs. Sally Pilkinton, both of
Fort Worth Texas; 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Funeral
services will be conducted at 3:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the New Prospect
Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. B. L.Bond, pastor of the First
Baptist Church of Lindale, and the Rev. John Mathis, pastor of the
Fairview Baptist Church. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Nephews will
serve as pallbearers and are requested to assemble at the residence of Mrs.
Dempsey at 2:45 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
The remains will be taken to the Dempsey residence at 2 o'clock tomorrow
afternoon to rest until time for the services.
