Mrs. Nancy Green
On November 3rd, 1915, the death angel invaded the home of brother J.W. Green
of Fifth avenue and called for the spirit of his wife, Mrs. Nancy Green and
wafted her from a life of toil, sickness and suffering to a home of peace and
happiness. Mrs. Nancy Green was born in Hall county, Georgia July 14, 1854. In
1886 she was united in marriage to J.W. Green. To this union were born two
daughters, Nellie and Minnie, who with a devoted father and step-granddaughter,
Rossie May, are left to mourn her loss. Sister Green united with the West
Baptist church Rome, Ga., 19 years ago and she being an invalid at the time was
baptized by Revs. J.E. Smith and C.L. Conn of Rome. She afterwards moved her
membership to Cedartown; where it remained up to her death.
Sister Green, with her family, moved to Greenville, S.C., where she lived until
about a month before her death. She asked that she be brought to Rome for
treatment by her old family physicians, Drs. Harbin. She had such confidence in
these doctors that if they failed to perfect a cure that it would be a hopeless
case, and so it was for she lived about a month after her arrival in Rome. Her
body was laid to rest beside the grave of her mother in Rock Run, Ala., which
was her request. Rev. J.T. Hiney, in a very appropriate way, spoke the last
words as a tribute of respect to her past life after which her body was gently
laid to rest.
Mrs. Green suffered greatly for 18 months before her death but bore it all with
the greatest of patience, and often spoke of how sweet it would be to die and
go home to rest with the dear ones gone before. Mrs. Green is a sister of
Calvin and John Prince, of Tecumseh, Ala. She leaves a vacancy that can never
be filled by any mother on earth, but may be filled by the presence of the
comforting spirit on[sic] the Son of God, and may each heart-broken relative
and friend prepare to meet her over in the land of glory, and of song where
hearts will never be broken, no tears will ever be shed and parting will be no
more. A Friend
