Mr. Godfrey
Godfrey was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Whitfield County, son of the late Oscar M. and
Fannie Fuller Godfrey and had spent most of his life in Rome and Floyd County. He
was a member of Blue Pond Baptist Church and was employed by Klopman Mills for nine
years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include the widow, the former Virginia Worley, to whom he was married
Sept. 29, 1951, two daughters, Mrs. Cathey Hyde, Calhoun and Mrs. Robin Russell,
Adairsville; three brothers, Charlie Godfrey and Oscar (Junior) Godfrey, both of
Rome; and Henry Godfrey, Dalton; three sisters, Mrs. Fannie Lou Ramsey, Dalton and
Mrs. Nellie Mae Hill and Mrs. Irene Sutherland, both of Rome; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jennings Heritage Chapel
with the Rev. Ray Tolbert officiating. Interment will be in Blue Pond Cemetery,
with the honor guard of Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion in charge of
graveside rites. Pallbearers include David Godfrey, James David Godfrey, Gene Parker,
Wendell Parker, John Terry and Donnie Spears.
