Clarence Johnny Edwards, 58, of 10 West Butler St., died Sunday morning at the residence. Although he had been in declining health for several months, his death came unexpectedly. Mr. Edwards was born in Floyd County on Sept. 17, 1914, son of the late William H. and Lucy Ely Edwards. He had spent his entire life in Rome and Floyd County and was a member of the New Harmony Baptist Church. His wife, the former Lula Gravely, died on Jan. 2, 1973. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Ellis Massey, Mrs. Floyd Lawson and Mrs. Lester Morgan, all of Rome: four brothers, R. L. Wesley, Garvin and Floyd Edwards, all of Rome; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Beech Creek United Methodist Church. The Revs. Larry Davis and Harold Daugherty will officiate. Interment will be in the family lot of the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Curtis, Roger, Mike, Jimmy Leroy, Sammy and Charles Edwards and Billy Massey. The body will lie in state at the residence of a sister, Mrs. Floyd Lawson, Rebecca Street, until time for the services. Henderson-Frazier Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
