MADISON KING

Maderson (Madison) King made his Last Will and Testament at Davids Island POW Camp, NY, 21 Aug 1863; proved Oct Term 1863, recorded 10 Dec 1863, Fayette Co, GA, Will Book 1, pp. 235-236.

The Will directs that the grave(s) of his parents, Benajah and Sarah King, be improved and tombstones erected at County Line Church, Fayette Co, GA. (However, no tombstones have been found; there are two graves of piled-up rock, probably granite, with large plastic cards affixed bearing the notations: "Benjamin King, B: 1768 in VA, D: 1827 in GA"; and "Sarah King, B: 1788 in NC, D: 1863 in GA".)

H. F. Longino is named as a brother-in-law in the Will. Sarah King, b. 28 Oct 1815, d. 15 Jan 1899, married Hugh F. Lungeno [sic] 3 Nov 1836 in Henry Co, GA. Based on Madison's will, Sarah is believed to be his older sister and Elizabeth King his "youngest" sister. Hugh F. Lungeno is believed to be Hugh Flournoy Longino, b. 13 Nov 1814 in GA, d. 9 Jan 1891 in Meriwether Co, GA. A Hugh Lungino [sic] made a deed to Thos. Hall dated 12 Jul 1823, recorded Book K, p. 161, Putnam Co, GA, conveying lot #276, Putnam Co, GA. Because Hugh Flournoy Longino, husband of Sarah King, would have been too young to have made this deed, the grantor may have been his father. It is believed that Elizabeth King, listed in the household of Madison King in the 1850 census for Fayette Co, GA, was Madison's sister, not his wife. However, Madison reportedly married Elizabeth Longino about 1851, and she is the wife listed in his household in the 1860 Census for Fayette Co, GA.
