Nesbit Family Cemetery Inscriptions DeKalb County, GA NESBIT FAMILY CEMETERY DEKALB CO. GA This cemetery is half in DeKalb County and half in Gwinnett. The county line runs diagonally through it. It sits next to the Georgia Power office off Lawrenceville Hwy near the intersection of that road with Jimmy Carter Blvd. It is well maintained and surrounded by a wrought iron fence. Most of the graves are box tombs with only one grave really damaged. There is a placque in front with the following inscription: NESBIT William Nesbit 1789 - 1863 Veteran of War of 1812 Widened an Indian trail in 1813, then supervised the building of a military road from Fort Daniel to a shallow ford on the Chattahoochee River. This is now Peachtree Road. About 1815, meeting at the Wynn House at Hog Mountain, hi and others began the creation of Gwinnett County and was appointed first sheriff and was elected the second and fourth terms as state legislator, he represented Gwinnett County, at Milledgeville, from 1829 to 1837. On this site was located his plantation of 650 acres. Transcription begins with row of graves closest to the parking lot moving left to right.
