Mt. Zion AME Church Cemetery Inscriptions DeKalb County, GA MT ZION AME CHURCH CEMETERY Mt. Zion AME Church , 2977 La Vista Rd. Cemetery Reading taken 19 November 1997 by R. A. Pendergast. Some grave markers are planted so deeply the lower parts could not be read. Those are indicated by the parenthetical comment (deep) following what could be read. Many markers are cast concrete slaps supplied by the funeral homes and have the name of the funeral home inscribed at the top. Those names include Cox, Huagabrooks and Hanley. In cases where date of birth was not known the slab includes an age at death, usually enclosed by parentheses. Readings began at the row closest to LaVista Dr and continued row by row in alternating directions to those nearest the rear of the church building. There are many graves marked by uninscribed polished cut stones and some, possibly, by field stones. Note: Reprinted with permission.
