Welcome To Coffee County![]() THE AMERICAN HISTORY & GENEALOGY PROJECT This page is maintained by Sherry Harrell and Kay Music Coffee County History Coffee County was formed on February 9, 1854 by an act of the General Assembly of the House and Senate of the State of Georgia. The said new county would be formed and named Coffee, after Gen. John E Coffee, a former soldier, State Legislator, and Congressman. It further stated that Coffee County would be attached to the Southern Judicial District. Coffee was formed from lands once included within the boundaries of Clinch, Ware, Telfair and Irwin counties. Most of this land was once a part of the 'parent county' of Appling, which was formed in 1818 and awarded in 490 acre Land Lots by the means of a Land Lottery. Districts located within Coffee County include: Broxton 1127, Ambrose 1556, Douglas 748 , Nicholls 1170, Westgreen 427, and Bridgetown 1804. | |||||||||||||||
