'While doing research on a well known Milstead family who had moved away and address was unknown. I could remember some of the members only by their nicknames so long I had forgotten their given names. I turned to lifetime residents Billy and Jackie Crawford for help. After further discussion we found that ninety-percent of Milstead residents were known by nicknames.

It was suggested that a compiled list be made and we would include it in some future publication. They asked lifetime resident Loretta McCurdy Shaw for help.

This publication is dedicated to the people that appear herein.

There is nothing derogatory intended to anyone living or dead.'

Hi Beth,

Hope all is well with you. My brother Ronnie had the nickname Cup. Because when he went into the diner he always ordered a cup of coffee.
Take care

Hi Beth,

I have another nick name. Jackie Knight was called Beef. He was a big boy played football and other sports. He was the youngest son of Carlton and Cordie Knight.
You are doing a fantastic job with the Milstead site. I look forward each day when I come home to see what you have added. I am trying to get Anthony Young to send you some pictures and info. He retired from the Marines and came back to Milstead. He was on Chopper I for the Presidents. Served and road with Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter and Reagan. I think this would really be a great thing for the site. There are many Milstead people who do not know this. His dad was a W.WII veteran totally disabled from war injuries. I want him to send you info on his dad. His dad was Lewis Young his Mom is Alene Young. I am sure your Mom remembers them. His granddad, Otis Peek lived just down Elm Street from our parents.

Take care
Galen

Mom wanted me to get you to add to the nicknames that dad's (Tommy Knight) nickname was Pinefloat and Charles Smith's was Milkweed.   ~ Kim Holcombe (December 30, 2004)

Hello there~
My Mom and I wanted to send in my Pawpaw's nickname (Olin Foster)-"Chatham" to website. I enjoyed taking a look at yesteryear Milstead, there was a lot of things that I had never seen, for example the picture of how Calloway Mill looked back then, the gym, and how the streets were, it was like I could put a picture with the stories that I have been told. I also enjoyed looking at my great grandfathers picture (Beeler Foster) on the website as well. I'd love to send in some pictures from my family, and also I have a picture of my Pawpaw on a Callaway baseball team that was not on the website. I will work on sending them in. Thanks for your hard work in setting up the website and continuing to work on it. Its an inspiration to be able to go back into that time period when I wish I could at least spend a day and be with the family I never knew that passed away before I was born. Thanks Again.
Sincerely,
Lori Capes O'Kelley (Serita Foster's daughter), October 23, 2005

Hi Beth

I have a nickname for you.  I was always called Buck.  How I got that name I have no idea.
