From the Callaway Beacon - 1950

Milstead Teen Club

The Milstead Teen Club recently held a combination Treasure Hunt and Hobo Hike.

The Hike began at the Milstead Community Center at 5:30 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. bikers gathered at the picnic area near the school, where a large bonfire was burning.

Each member of the club brought a lunch. After supper, the group sat around and toasted marshmellows.

Picture #1: Gathered around the bonfire.

Picture #2: 'Skeeter' Wilson, Milstead Recreation Leader, starts the bonfire.

Picture #3: Group leaving for treasure hunt.

Picture #4: Milstead teenagers enjoy hobo hike.

Frank Robinson sent me this email today (3/15/2005) with corrections on the information I had put on this page. Thanks Frank!!!!

Beth,

If I am not mistaken, the date for the Callaway Beacon for the Milstead Teen pictures you posted, is not 1950, but more like 1957-60.

I say that because there is a picture of me "hamming" for the camera, (black jacket with flashlight in hand) in one of them, and I was born in 1945, and I am obviously not 5 years old in the picture...more like 12-14 years old.  I know that is me because my dad kept that picture taped to the inside of his toolbox for over 30 years.

Also, in this other picture:

The ones I recognize is (A) Charles Smith (Frank Smith's Son) and (B) My first cousin, Michael Robinson.  Both Charles and Michael are about a year older than me.  I don't recognize the others in the picture, but the one behind Charles might be Bo Phillips.

Just thought I'd send this correction for you to investigate.

Thanks, and keep up the good work, I enjoy this site.
