Picture is not available. Sgt. James Daniel A Prisoner of War Returns 'Milstead, a patriotic community during the war, was very much concerned when news came over the radio that one of their own, Sgt. James Daniel was a prisoner of war, December 1, 1950. The 10-year veteran was captured shortly after arriving in Korea with the Army Medical Corps. James was one of 14 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Daniel. Mr. Daniel worked in the Milstead Twister Room. The family learned through neighbors listening to the radio that four Georgia boys were being released. When the community learned that Sgt. Daniel planned to drive his wife, Bernice, and children home to Covington, Georgia from California, they contributed the funds to fly the family. At home they were given a warm and joyous welcome. He told the welcoming crowd that he was in good condition, but the wounds he received bothered him and he was tired. A brother, Sgt. Harold E. Daniel was home from Korea to greet his brother.' |
