W. E. DeLoach, Sr. Passes
W. E. DeLoach, Sr., retired member of the
25-year-club, passed away at the home of a son on Friday, January 31.
A native of Heard County, he
moved to LaGrange in 1894 and began a long record of employment with
the Company. His first job was in Calumet Carding, when the Plant was
then owned by a group of local men.
He left the Company for several
years when he went into the grocery business. Returning to Calumet in
1928, he began his continuous employment and received his 25-year
award on September 23, 1953. He was one of 10 employees to receive the
first 25-year awards at Calumet. When Rockweave was transferred to
Manchester, Mr. DeLoach went along also, and continued to commute each
day up until his retirement in July 1956.
His wife is the former Mary
Upchurch, whom he married on Valentine's Day in 1906. Other
survivors include his four children, 13 grandchildren, and six
great-grandchildren. His children are W. E., Jr.; John;
J. P., who is employed in Hillcrest Maintenance; and Mrs.
Louise Bassett, Atlanta. |
