'Here's a photo of
C. J. Hicks (standing left) with students and a bus, about 1950, I'd
guess. I recognize Jack Shaw (sitting, front left) and
Janice Shaw (standing against the bus, seventh from left).'

Terry, you are right about Jack and Janice and Mr.
C. J. Hicks in that photo. We had moved to Wilmore but
Janice was invited to go on this trip with "her class". Standing
to the left of Janice is her friend, Faye Rooks.
The Rooks lived directly across the street from us on Elm Street
in Milstead. Mrs. Rooks, Faye's mother (her first name
I can't recall at the moment) is also in the picture. (in a print
dress...her dark hair pulled back).

This was the 8th grade (? -- is
that right mother) trip to Jekyll Island, GA. Mother and Daddy let
me take the train down from Wilmore [Kentucky] to join them even
though we had moved away from Milstead and I was no longer in the
grade with them. Faye Rooks is beside me (left as you look at
the picture). I may remember more names later.
