Patrick and Anne JUDGE GORDON came to Savannah from Ireland in the late 1820's. Their children were Alice, James, Michael and Mary. Alice married John KENNEDY and Mary married John POWER. Upon John Power's death, Mary married Patrick MCGARRITY. Mary's daughter, Mary, married John (De)WITT.
I am trying to verify that Alice is indeed their daughter, as she did not show up on the 1840 census, but is named as his daughter on his tombstone. John Power died during the Civil War. He came to Savannah from Canada. I know nothing more about him. John Witt was born in Mobile, Alabama, rumored to have been orphaned and raised by the Henry HAWES family of Columbus, Georgia.

DUNN, John Henry Crittenden, and James. As the story goes three brothers; James, John and unknown came over from Bantry Bay, Ireland abt.1832/3. Documentation of an Indenture states that Henry age 14 years, 4 months, and 6 days was bound to Aaron EDMONDS, of Savannah, as an Apprentice to Aaron EDMONDS Coach Maker to learn the trade of Coach Making in EDMONDS workshop in Savannah. James Dunn presents himself as Legal Guardian for Henry Dunn. The indenture was for 4 years. J.H.C. DUNN was born 4 Oct. 1818 in Bantry Bay, Ireland. J.H.C. left Savannah to live with his brother that was an overseer on a plantation in Mississippi. I do not know which brother this was, James or unknown. John later on came to Texas and joined the U. S. Army. As the story goes he searched two times. One time was 1 June 1848 to 6 Sept 1851. He started his stint in Corsicana, TX at the Commissary Unit, Fort Graham, and was later transferred to Fort Belknap, and was later Killed by a Comanche raiding party in Buffalo Gap, TX. I do not have any information on James. Searching for information that will tell the story of the indenture of Henry to Aaron EDMONDS, the ship listing of the passenger list with names and dates, information on James and lineage, the name of the "unknown" brother. If any one also has any connection with any of the names, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you for your time and knowledge.

I am looking for where about of the "City of Bristol" mentioned in several Land Grants & Survey records between 1733 & 1756 in St. Phillips Parish. Some of the latter documents were written & signed by Issac Braugh Esq. & Mayor. I believe "Bristol" to be near Hardwick as Hardwick is mentions within these same papers.
Also can anyone tell me if there is an index to the lots granted between these years? & have the lot numbers.

Am starting to explore the ancestry of John Frank Martin, born 2-12-38. Parents John and Julia Martin of Savannah. Julia was a school teacher in the 50's and 60's. John died sometime around 1943 after having been paralized because of a hit and run while he was riding a bicycle. The were married in either the First African Baptist Church or the Bryant Street Baptist Church. My friend John, went to the St. Pius Catholic school and graduated in 1957. His mother died just after he left for Tuskegee Institute in the fall of 1957. John Frank then went into the Navy and returned to Tuskegee four years later. The house he lived in with his mother had been ransacked so badly that he tour it down. It remains an empty lot to this day. If this sounds familar to anyone, would appreciate your help. Where John Frank Martin and I are possibly connected would be from his mother's side where there were Cook's. My maiden name is Cook ... would love to find out if we are related. I know this will be difficult to find out since so many fact of information were kept secret and/or not recorded because of the racial barriers.

DESHAZO/DECHENEAUX surname(s) - I am looking for information from anyone concerning this surname. I know that a Thomas Decheneaux served as an interpreter in the courts for some of the French speaking folks in Chatham Co. from as early as 1794 thru at least 1811. Also, a Lewis Deshazo (which is an anglicized form of Decheneaux) purchased land in September of 1811 in Chatham Co. The Chatham Co. Newspaper ran an announcement of the death of a John Deshazo ca. 1835. John was regarded as "a longtime resident of southern GA". I haven't been able to access many Chatham Col., GA records. If you are related on this line, or know of information on it, PLEASE contact me!! I can be reached at eyphoto@pacbell.net OR nvrgiveup@mailcity.com. Thanks so much for your cooperation!
