Last Will & Testament of
John S. Dodd

In the name of God, Amen. I, John S. Dodd of the State and County aforesaid, getting old & in feeble health & recognizing that I must soon die, yet being of sound & dispossing mind & memory, deem it right & proper both as respects my self & my children, that I should make a disposition of the property with which a kind providence has blessed me with. I do therefore make this my last will & testament hereby resinding & annulling all others by me heretofore made.

1st I devise & direct that my body be buried in a decent manner, suitable to my circumstances in life, trusting that my soul shall return to God who gave it, as I hope for salvation through the atonement of our blessed Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ.

Secondly: I desire and direct that if owning any thing at my death, that my just debts be paid & a suitable slab rock be placed at the head & feet of my grave.

Thirdly, I have given off to my children, in land, money & other goods the following amounts as annexed to their names, towards their part of my estate to wit:

James T. Dodd, twelve hundred dollars.
Elizabeth H. Hemperly, one thousand & forty dollars.
Thomas E. Dodd, nine hundred & sixty dollars.
Francis M. Dodd, one thousand & eighty dollars.
Geo M. Dodd Eleven hundred & thirty five dollars & sixty six cents.
Nancy J. Miller has received eight hundred & four dollars.
Louduskey A. P. Evans, has received nine hundred & forty four dollars.
Lettie H. M. Hemperly has received eight hundred & forty dollars.
John D. dodd has received one thousand & three dollars & sixty five cents.
Sarah L. Sims has received twelve hundred thirty eight & 89/100 dollars.

Fourthly, I hereby constitute & appoint my sons James T. Dodd & Thomas E. Dodd as my executors of this will empowering them to collect the debts owing to me at my death & use all the money that may be on hand & make all my children even & sell off all the land & property, after my death, distribute the proceeds equably to each child, which I hope will be satisfactory to all my children & hope no quarreling or hard thoughts will be indulged in.

Before me came J. W. Creel, named as a witness to the within writing purporting to be John S. Dodds last Will & Testament & being duly sworn said that he with Joseph Creel & J. W. Evans at the request of John S. Dodd & in his presence did attest as witnesses the within as his John S. Dodd will, that the same was signed & published by John S. Dodd in their presence as his last will, that he was at the time of said attestation & signning by himself of sound & disposing mind & memory, that he executed the within paper voluntarily.
