Clay Sink Baptist Church Cemetery

This cemetery was originally named Slaughter Cemetery and the community surrounding it was called Slaughterville. The Harrison Slaughter family was the first family to settle this area and the cemetery began with the burial of one of the Slaughter Infant's by Mr. Slaughter. Later a church was built adjacent to the cemetery and was called Clay Sink Baptist and eventually the name of the community became referred to as Clay Sink as well. Many members of this original family still reside in the Lacoochee area and in neighboring Hernando County.

This cemetery can be reached from SR 50 east of US 301 by utilizing Clay Sink Rd. It is paved for a ways then turns into a fairly well maintained dirt road within the Richloam Wildlife Management area, to Clay Sink Baptist Church Rd. It can also be reached from Lacoochee via CR575 North approximately 4 miles, then turn right onto Lacoochee Clay Sink Road (dirt road). The road is pretty well maintained, but can be bumpy, its about 6.5 miles to Clay Sink Baptist Church Road, also a dirt road. Turn right and follow the road through the pasture up to the Church/Cemetery, which is visible from the main road.
