Pine Rest Cemetery is located on Cove Road at SE 45th Avenue, Port Salerno, FL. Approximately three acres in size (according to Janet Hutchinson's "History of Martin County"), the site is now quite open with just a few old, large pine trees remaining in the old section. The hibiscus hedge (referred to in "The History..") is no longer in existence.
There are now approximately 280 internments in Pine Rest, with new additions being located across the small drainage ditch which divides the cemetery in half. This "new" section, according to Trent Gallimore (the 1997 custodian of the plat and records), used to have several trees that no longer exist. The older sections are now closed except to owners of existing sites. The earliest burial appears to have taken place c1916 and the latest in 1996. The reader is referred to "The History..." for notes of the early cemetery and its first burials.
Pine Rest Cemetery is now run and maintained by a Board of Trustees with the cooperation of local funeral homes. The MCGS wishes to thank Messrs. Stanger and Gallimore of the Board for their assistance in conducting the research at this location. Mr. Stanger was responsible for the modern day layout and supervision for over 32 years, a role that passed to Mr. Gallimore.
