This neat, maintained burial ground is located close to U.S. 1 in Hobe Sound, FL, south of Bridge Road at the corner of Comus and Florida Streets. In 1949 it was conveyed by the Hobe Sound Company and organized as the Florida Memorial Cemetery. If it ceases to be used for cemetery purposes, it reverts back to the Hobe Sound Company.
It is maintained by the Ministerial Alliance of Hobe Sound and situated next to one of the member churches in Banner Lake. There are approximately 300 sites with the earliest burial recorded c1945, with the most recent in 1998. Many of the burials have no markers, however, in some cases, records show the purchasers of the plots.
It is to be noted that the records show only lettered rows and numbered plots showing the names of the purchasers. For purposes of the survey conducted herein, each row was identified as a "Plot", which was then broken down into subdivisions of a "Plot" (i.e., Section: South, Plot C, Lot 27D). Each of the numbered "Plots" was subdivided into six (or more) individual gravesites (A-H).
The few records available concerning burials are in the possession of Reverend Joseph Berrian, who has some ancestors buried there. The Martin County Genealogical Society's Cemetery Committee is indebted to Reverend Berrian, who not only made those records available, but was there every day during the field survey assisting with the locations and identifications.
