Battle of Marianna, In Memory of
Captain Robert D. LHeureux, Born July 22, 1943 Died February
4, 1984, by Ms. Helen LHeureux.
The Marianna Light Artillery Battery A and B was formed by Robert D.
LHeureux. He was born in Holyoke MA,
July 22, 1943. An Alqonquin
Indian born in the United States. He moved to Florida in 1962 and
in 1968 married Helen Mareese Basford. Later he had one son
born January, 1970.
Robert D. LHeureux started the 18th Century Gun shop
in April 1979. The following year he became interested in Civil War Reenacting.
In forming the Marianna Light Artillery he created his story and wrote history.
The Marianna Light Artillery due to his efforts were successful in bringing
to Jackson County, Florida, the Battle of Marianna, September 24-25, 1983.
Being Alqonquin Indian , he felt he could play both Confederate
and Union soldier. He also participated in the making of Shadow
Waltz filmed in part at Tannahill State Park in Alabama. (In
1985 the film had not been released). He died February 4, 1984.
