Subj: LOGAN and KILCREASE

From: [email protected] (Peggy Logan)
I am researching my husband's great grandfather, Dawson LOGAN, b.
ca 1820 GA. "Dawson" isn't a common given name so I was very interested to
see that there were men by that name in Jackson Co. Our Dawson LOGAN
lived in Decatur and Miller Cos., GA and before that (1850) in Thomas Co.
We believe he was probably the Dawson LOGAN who was on the 1840 Washington
Co., GA census. On the 1840 Thomas Co. census he is mistakenly listed as
"Johnson LOGAN." We know it was Dawson because of deeds, etc. there.
Can anyone please help us sort out the Dawson LOGAN's? Are those in
Jackson Co. related to the William H. LOGAN who md. Abbie
BULLOCK? According to tradition, our Dawson md. (Mary?) Susanna
Morris. They had the following children: Mary, Eliza Jane, Leon, William
Thomas, Margaret, Martha, James Olen, C. C. (prob. Christopher Columbus)
and Minolee. They were b. between 1840 and 1870. James Olen LOGAN
is ours. He md. Mary KILCREASE in 1880. Thank you for any possible
help. I am eager to share my information.Peggy Logan

My g-grandfather, John M. (Mansford?) Pellum (Pelham) was a
CW Vet. He was originally from Henry Co. AL, and may have fought with Co.
A, 37th AL Infantry. He settled in Jackson County at some point after the
war, with at least some of his children who went on to raise their children
there. He is buried (next to wife, Lucy Baggett) in Collin's Mill
Cemetery in Graceville. There is a Confederate marker on his plot which
was placed there within the last ten years, I think. Unfortunately, I don't
have a picture.

Hello, I just would like to say that you have a wonderful page here for the
Jackson Co. genealogy Keep up the great work. Now on to my query..... I am
looking for any information on the surname CARTER. My gggrandmothers
name was Queen E. CARTER and I have found her on the Jackson Co. marriages
books married to a William A. CREAMER in 1871. 3 years later she married
Thomas Jefferson PARKER ( this is my gggrandfather) I have not been
able to trace anything past her. I have no idea who her parents were or even
when she was born. I would like to think I have finally traced her to Jackson
Co. but have not been able to find her on any census reports. If there is
anyone out there that might have any link to these names or any info on them
please get in touch with me I would love to hear from you. Thank you. Regina

Betty,
If it isn't him, it's a relative. Far as I know we don't have a record of
a Nathaniel but we have a slew of Johns and Thomas'. Could have had 6 brothers
named Nathaniel for all we know about him. I wonder if he and George were
brothers. If they came from Randolph Co., GA, they would almost have to be
related! (don't you think?) George married in 1842, probably born around
1820's..dates are right!
Fay in Canyon, TX says she thinks George's father was David and that he was
in Florida. Don't know what she bases this theory on but everything else
she has come up with has been right. Don't know what county (probably yours
ha).
I was about ready to call you...thought maybe you'd died on me before you
found the rest of my family tree!Love ya! Sue

I am researching information on the Williams Family. William
Williams moved with his wife Elizabeth to Sneads around 1830 to 1850.
Found them in the 1850 census. They had serveral children. Of interest is
James B. Williams who married Melissa Plair (Player
- Family records indicate Plair. There is a wedding in the Early Marriages
Book in 1859 that indicates Player was the correct name.) They had
a daugther (my great
grandmother) Mary Elizabeth Williams in 1864. I believe Melissa died,
because in 1865 James married Mary Jane Lupo(confirmed by the Early
Marriage Records and family records) . Somewhere from 1865 to 1875, James
and Mary Jane moved to California leaving James daughter Mary Elizabeth for
adoption with the Shiver's of Camilla, Georgia. Family Records also
indicate that Melissa is buried in the Old Miller
(Millner) Church cemetary 2 miles west of Sneads. Any connections, history
of Sneads, etc would be greatly appreciated. Kenneth Shiver

I'm trying to figure out how to get a death certificate for my greatgreandmother
Margaret Melinda Cook Byrd (b. 1857 d. Feb 28, 1910) who died in or
around Graceville (she's buried in Rehobeth, Houston Co, AL)--AL doesn't
have a death certificate for her, they began collecting this data in 1908,
so I must assume her death was registered in FL. Unfortunately, FL didn't
begin registering deaths until after this date. Any ideas how I can find

Is there any way to access Graceville funeral home records circa 1910? Thanks

One research area that Jackson County researchers may have neglected is the
older cemeteries just across the Ala line. One such cem has included the
graves of several Fla families such as Blackwell, Chumney, Eddins, Howard,
Jordan, Nordan, Simmons, Watford. That is Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church.
From Grangerburg, go east toward State Park on Co Rd 4, about 5 mi and turn
left at sign. Church is in sight of sign. Another, just south of there and
within sight is the Friendship Methodist Church Cem, and it is within a mile
of state line. There I found my great-great grandmother's grave - Bethany
Oswald Simmons, born 1830, died 1904.
Also are families of McDaniel, Dr Granger and family. He was
a Confed Surgeon after whom Grangerburg was named. Watford, Stephens.
An interesting plot is that of the Blackwell family. There is a marker
that tells who each child married and it also tells of the family coming
from SC in 1850 or so. Other names in that small cem are Long, Grimsley,
Lockhart, Yarbrough Adams and Strickland. There are many unmarked graves
there and the cem is in poor shape.

I'm researching the Byrd line in Jackson Co.
My ggrandfather was William Samuel Byrd (B July 19, 1860 maybe in
AL) died Jan 7, 1933) He was living in Graceville at the time of his death.
He married Margaret Malinda Cook (b. July 27, 1857, d. Feb 28, 1910)
on Sept 18, 1879 in Jackson Co, FL (Book E-232). I'm told that Margaret was
a Cherokee. He remarried after Margaret's death; his wife at the time of
his death was Dollie.
They had my grandfather Thomas Buford Byrd (b. Nov 10, 1895, d. Feb
14, 1992)...I don't know of any other siblings. My grandfather spent a
large part of his life in Hartford, AL (very near to Graceville).
William's father's name was either John Byrd or Ison?? (can't
read death
certificate well, but that's what it looks like) Byrd.
