The following letter was sent to the City of Marianna, then passed on to the Chipola Historical Association, but nobody at the last meeting was familiar with the parties named, so we are posting it here in hopes that someone can assist Ms Garrett: "Do you have any histories on Samuel Cobb and America Amanda Cobb who came from VA and first settled in your area with the two sons. That could be 1850s or 1860s. See Census 1860 for sure, as last 1850 census he was still in VA. Don't know what year they left VA. He is one of that bunch that settled in GA (two of them). His son, "Phil" Cobb grew up on their farm later to be in Houston Conty, Dothan, AL. Aquilla Alexander "Phil" Cobb married Josephine Martin of Cottondale or Graceville. Will you be able to find Josephine Martin's date of birth, who her parents were and who, how many sisters and brothers she had? After Josephine Martin died "Phil" married Genie Hudspeth--This is her married name. What was her maiden name? He married her ???1914-1925.If you find them on your census pages of past make me a copy--up to 1930--any histories on these Cobbs? "Phil" had children who lived their lives in your area--Oscar Cobb & wife Lillie arrentine--Cottondale farmers--Sam Cobb & wife Delilah Kelly--Cottondale-Graceville farmers--Ann Cobb who married Pharoah Jordan, sold cars in that general area. If any histories found on any of these families, limit copies to at least six pages for me. Your fee for this service? Cost of copies of histories and census if any found on the elder two, Samuel & Phil. Sincerely yours, Flora C. Garrett, Grandview Pines, 390 Deatsville Highway, Millbrook, AL 6054-1636."

Subj:  REGISTER, KEITH, FOWLER, and PHILIPS/PHILLIPS
Date: 97-10-11
From: [email protected]
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Joseph Allen Register's burial place was mentioned in the WPA Vetrans Cemetary Survey for Jackson county. This is the Crutchfield Cemetery. Maps of the cemeteries surveyed were not available. It is not on current topographical maps, however, I did find in on the soil conservation service Soil Survey of Jackson County. I had heard of it, and Mr. Johns road me around and showed us where the cemetery was. He was very nice and gave permission for the marker to be placed near the road. The story is told that the "Crutchfield boys, destroyed the markers in clearing the land. Daddy's cousin Letsie JACKSON Fowler remembers as a child going with her mother Fannie Magee KEITH Jackson to clean the cemetery. Fannie Magee KEITH was a sister to my grand father John Alton Daniel (John D. ) KEITH and a daughter of George Washington KEITH and Caroline REGISTER Keith. Caroline was a daughter of Joseph Allen REGISTER and is my connection to the REGISTERs. George Washington and Caroline lost a son, James Allen KEITH, probably as an infant, he could be buried there. Joseph Allen's second wife Deborah is buried at the cemetery at Collins Mill Church.

I do not know who else is there. There is a possibility that Christchaney PHILIPS Register, d 25 April 1875, (Joseph Allen's first wife) may be there. George Washington and Caroline lost a son, James Allen KEITH, 6 months, July 1876, he could be buried there. Joseph Allen's second wife Deborah is buried at the cemetery at Collins Mill Church. Joseph Allen's marker has the WRONG date on it. It should be 4 December 1885 not 1883.

I need your advice. I would like to contact any and all folks researching the REGISTER and PHILIPS/PHILLIPS surnames in Jackson, Washington, Holmes, Walton, Wakulla Counties in FL and Henry, Dale, Houston (now), counties in AL, to see if we can sort out the families. This is a large project, but one that could contribute much to North Florida Genealogy. I have made a few finds this year that may help sort some out, but I could sure use contacts.

The REGISTER reunion is next Saturday, October 18, at the Noma Civic Center, Noma, FL. Bring a covered dish for lunch, Livve entertainment after lunch. Thanks, Frances Keith

From: [email protected] (Kelly)
My grandfather Wesley Call Vickers was born in Jackson Co., FL in 1888. His grandfather, James Vickers, came to Jackson Co. in the early 1820's from GA. The Vickers lived off of 77 between Graceville and Chipley, and most are buried in the Damascus Baptist Church cemetery.  Jake Vickers was on the school board about the turn of the century. I am researching the Vickers, O'Conner/O'Connor, and Pelt/VanPelt, surnames. I also have a home page entitled "The Vickers Family Resource Page" for those researching their Vickers families in the south. On the page I have the stories of James and Sallie, Jacob and Addie, and Wesley and Nellie, (g-g-grandparents, g-grandparents, and grandparents) of Jackson Co. The address is ttp://kvickers.toccoafalls.edu   Thanks, Kelly G. Vickers

From: [email protected] (S. M. McAllister)
Please enter the following Surnames with my EMail address:
BELL, HALL, McALLISTER, KIRKLAND, DEAL, LAWLESS These are the main ones and perhaps others but these will do for now. Thanks for all you are doing to help others do research. All these have been microfilmed by LDS and are available for rental thru the local  FHC's as follows:
Bell Film #1598470
Deal 1598469
Hall 1598471
Kirkland 1598478
McAllister 1598463

Also they can ALL be found on Broderbund's World Family Tree CD-ROM disk No. 9 ($39.99). As you know, most of my research centered in the SE AL counties of Dale, Geneva, Henry and Houston but spilled over into the connecting counties of AL-FL-GA. There will soon be a copy of these microfilms in the Houston-Love Library in Dothan as soon as I get a chance to run them down and get a little publicity in the Dothan Eagle so people will know they are there for the use of others. I copied ALL marriage licences in those four counties from year one plus cemetery surveys in my efforts to be as complete as possible.
