Preservation Advisory Council Historic House & Building Recognition

On Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the Fran Carlton Center from 2pm to 4 pm, the Apopka Historical Society's Preservation Council recognized the owners of some of the oldest houses and buildings in Northwest Orange County.  These 42 historic properties were the first entries into the local ‘Northwest Orange County Register of Historic Places’.

Each house or building received a plaque with the date it was built to be displayed on the building.  They will also received a certificate of recognition.

We were pleased to have two guest speakers for this event:

-        John Maseman: Director and Chief Conservator of The South Florida Conservation Center, Inc.  He talked about: “Why Lake Maggiore, Why Zellwood and Why Sydonie?”

-        Steve Rajtar: Real estate lawyer with a love of history and the outdoors, is also an author and creator of over one-hundred and fifty historical tours.  He talked about “Historical Trails”.

This was only the first of several observances that are planned by the council.  There are many more houses and buildings that qualify as historic buildings in the Northwest Orange County area.
