Helen Hollick to be Guest Speaker at Special Evening

Well-known author, Helen Hollick, is to be the special guest of the King Harold Day Society at an evening event on Saturday 18th September. Last year a similar event, with Paul Doherty as the speaker, was a huge success, and the Society was asked to make it a regular annual date.

About this year's Guest Speaker

Helen Hollick is the author of a number of popular novels on historical subjects, including a trilogy about King Arthur, and a series of novels about piracy on the high seas, “The Voyages of Captain Jessemiah Acorne”. Of particular interest to us are two medieval novels:- “A Hollow Crown” set in 1013 and about Emma of Normandy’s marriage to King AEthelred of England; and “Harold the King”, in which she traces the events leading up to the Battle of Hastings from the point of view of Harold and his Godwinson of Wessex family.

In addition, Helen is the screenwriter for the film “1066”, currently being filmed, which is based on her book.

Helen knows Waltham Abbey well, living in Walthamstow, and spends considerable time in Epping Forest as her daughter is a horse rider.
