Originally published in 1885, Our Parish Registers
- Three Hundred Years of Curious Local History holds a wealth of
fascinating facts, tales and traditions relating to Waltham Abbey,
collected by the prominent local historian William Winters.
His 239 original pages have been reproduced
on 60 A4 pages,
and a further 52pp. of new name indexes to the text has been added.
The material includes extracts from the
parish registers and churchwardens' accounts, and sets of monumental
inscriptions from both the churchyard and the cemetery, many of which
have since been lost. A plan of the gravestones as they stood in the
churchyard before it was cleared in the 1970's is also included.
A directory of the town's gentry and tradespeople of the mid-1880s
has also been thoroughly indexed by name and by trade.
