Will of Jane Henchman 4th October 1777

 

In the Name of God Amen.

I Jane Henchman of the Close of the City of New Sarum in the County of Wilts Widow of the Reverend Francis Henchman late of Ruan in the County of Cornwall Clerk deceased considering the uncertaintity of this life do make publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in manner following that is to say first

I  do give and bequeath unto my brother the reverend Mr Humphrey Henchman ten guineas for mourning and in consideration of the great expense of the education and breeding up of my two sons the Reverend Mr Francis Henchman and Mr William Henchman.

I give them only the sum of twenty pounds each to be paid out of my personal estate.

Also I do give and bequeath unto my said son Francis Henchman the pair of silver candlesticks one silver salver and silver gilt cup

Also all that the undivided Moiety of half part of all that Messuage Tenement Dwelling house Farm Land and Hereditaments and premises with their appurtenances situate lying and being in Orcheston Saint George in the said County of Wilts now the estate of my mother Mrs Martha Pinckney for her life and all my Right and Interest therein and thereto I do give and bequeath unto my daughters Jane Henchman and Martha Henchman To hold unto my said daughters Jane Henchman and Martha Henchman their heirs and assigns for ever as Tenants in Common But in case the undivided Moiety or half part of the said Messuage or Tenement Dwelling House farm lands Hereditaments and premises with their appurtenances situate in Orcheston Saint George aforesaid shall be sold in my life time or afterwards then I give and bequeath direct limit and appoint the money arising by the sale of the undivided Moiety of the said premises unto my said two daughters Jane Henchman and Martha Henchman to be divided equally between them but Subject to the payment of the legacies herein after by me given to my sons Francis Henchman and William Henchman

Also I give and bequeath direct limit and appoint unto my said son Francis Henchman the further sum of three hundred pounds and unto my said son William Henchman the further sum of two hundred pounds to be paid unto them respectively in twelve months next after my said daughters shall be entitled unto the Rents and Profits of the undivided Moiety of the said Messuage Lands and premises aforesaid or shall be entitled to the money for which the undivided Moiety of the said Messuage Lands and premises shall or may be sold

And I do hereby direct limit and appoint that my said son Francis Henchman shall accept the said legacy of three hundred pounds hereby given him and also that my sais son William Henchman shall accept the said legacy of two hundred pounds hereby also given him in full for their several parts shares and proportions of the undivided Moiety of the said Messuage Lands and premises or of the money for which the same shall or may be sold

Also all the Rest and Residue of my goods and Chattels Rights and Credits of what nature or kind soever after my just Debts Legacies and funeral expenses are paid and discharged I do give and bequeath unto my said daughters Jane Henchman and Martha Henchman to be equally divided between them and I do nominate and appoint the said Jane Henchman and Martha Henchman joint Executrixes of this my Will hereby revoking all former Wills by me made.

In Witness whereof I have herein to set my hand and seal the fourth day of October in the seventeenth year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven.

Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Jane Henchman the Testatrix to be her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who subscribed our names as Witnesses herein in presence of the said Testatrix and of each other

This Will was proved at London the twenty fifth day of February in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty three before the Worshipful Andrew Coltee Durrel Doctor of Laws and Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Peter Calvert also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oaths of Jane Henchman spinster and Martha Bury formerly Henchman (wife of William Bury) the daughters of the deceased and Executrixes named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased having been first sworn to duly administer.
