Oxfordshire Family History Society

The Oxfordshire FHS has available for purchase CDs of transcribed parish registers of all parishes, and also censuses for the county. Computer search services are also available in the county-wide databases.

Oxfordshire Record Office

The Oxfordshire Record Office holds the original historic documents relating to the county.

They will answer enquiries relating to holdings such as pre-1858 wills, from which you may buy copies - contact them at

Mailing List for Oxfordshire

[email protected] is a mailing list for family and local history related to Oxfordshire, England.

There are about 700 members at the moment, many from the OFHS and Oxfordshire local history groups and there are also experts in different fields from adjacent counties. It's a lively group, where queries are posted, and frequently answered, & information is given about subjects such as web sites, forthcoming meetings of interest, books, and sources available for research.

Surname interest list for Oxfordshire (OXSIL)

OXSIL is a list of over 5,000 surnames under research in Oxfordshire, cross-referenced to place & date, allowing you to check for researchers with similar interests to yourself, and add your own interests.

The website was created and maintained on Rootsweb for many years by Leah Savage, who has since moved on in life; it has now moved to a new site, where it is maintained by Paul Brazell in cooperation with the Oxfordshire Family History Society.

Oxford University Alumni

It may be that in your research you find someone about whom you'd like to know more who was at the University in Oxford. The Oxford University archivist, at [email protected], will be able to look in records of the Alumni of the University for you. These records usually contain biographical and genealogical information as well as collegiate records.

Oxfordshire Studies (OxS)

The holdings of Oxfordshire Studies in central Oxford include transcribed parish records (in hard copy and on computer), and transcribed census returns, Ancestry Library Edition, FindMyPast.com and the 19th century British Newspaper Library (which includes Jackson's Oxford Journal) on computer.

Victoria County History Volumes

The VCH series of volumes for Oxfordshire aims to provide an encyclopaedic history of the constituent parishes of Oxfordshire.
The volumes are available in many large libraries.

Oxfordshire Health Archives (OHA)

Details are available about the holdings of the OHA for Oxfordshire hospitals, and the information which may be obtained relating to patients & staff, at the Oxon. Health Archives link from http://www.oxfordshirehealtharchives.nhs.uk/
