This small village and parish lie 5 miles east of Spilsby. Candlesby parish lies to the west and Bratoft parish lies to the south. The parish covers only about 675 acres.

- Gunby Hall was built in 1700 of red brick. The MASSINGBERD family has long been associated with the manor and the parish.

General Sir Archibald Armar MONTGOMERY-MASSINGBERD resided in the parish around 1930. He was Chief of the Imperial General Staff.
- Gunby is from Old Scandinavian for "village of Gunnhildr", and the name appeared as Gunelby in records from 1066 and 1069.

- The parish was in the ancient Wold division of the Candleshoe Wapentake in the East Lindsey district in the parts of Lindsey.
- Kelly's 1900 Directory of Lincolnshire places the parish, perhaps erroneously, in the South Lindsey district of the county.
