- The Anglican parish church is dedicated to Saint Gilbert of Sempringham.
- The church nave was rebuilt in 1847.
- The church chancel was added in 1854.
- The church seats 200.

For much of its history, Borthertoft was a chapel of ease for the parish of Kirton. In official records it is recorded as a township and not a chapel. The parish covers about 1,800 acres.
If you are planning a visit:
- Take the A1121 trunk road west out of Boston. It passes just south of Brothertoft.
- Stop by the Village Hall and pick up a schedule of planned events.

- Brothertoft Hall is a relatively modern building.
- The Hall is a Grade 2 Listed historical house built circa 1850 primarily of yellow brick.
- The house was reputedly built from the proftis of growing woad.
- The national grid reference is TF 2746.
- You'll want an Ordnance Survey Explorer #261 map, which has a scale of 2.5 inches to the mile.

- The parish was in the ancient Kirton Wapentake in the Borough of Boston in the parts of Holland.
- By a local government Board Order, dated 24 Dec 1880, Fosdyke Fen allotment was added to Brothertoft's civil parish.
- Holland Fen and Brothertoft have a Joint Parish Council since the two older parishes merged. You may contact them regarding civic or political issues, but they will NOT do family history lookups for you.
- For today's district governance, visit the local Boston Borough Council.
- Bastardy cases would be heard in the Kirton and Skirbeck petty session hearings.
- In 1666, Thomas MABLESON bequeathed the rent from 23 acres of land in Wyberton and Kirton for the poor of Brothertoft.
- As a result of the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act, this parish became part of the Boston Poor Law Union.

- The township was included in the North-East Holland Fen United School Board district which formed on 23 Jan 1879.
- The district built a school here in 1881 which eventually was closed and became the parish hall.
- Some time after 1909, the children of this parish attended Hedgehog Bridge School in Holland Fen.
