St. James the Great's has good Perp tower built of Pennant stone with ashlar dressings. The tower has diagonal buttresses, a stair-turret with spirelet, open balustraded parapet, and crocketed pinnacles. The north side of the nave is 13th C with an Early English north doorway; otherwise the church was largely rebuilt in the 15th C when the south aisle was added with a five-bay arcade to the nave, and two bays to the chancel. The font is a Norman forgery of the 17th C.
