Christ Church with St. George's church consists of nave, chancel, south aisle, north porch and a west tower that is attached to the east wing of Hanham Court. ĘThe 15th C church tower has a pierced parapet; and large pinnacles at three corners and a spirelet at the fourth corner. Midway along each of the four sides are smaller pinnacles. There are gargoyles at the corners. The font is Norman with a plain four-sided scalloped bowl resting on a roll and circular mouldings with four spurs on the plinth.
The attached Hanham Court consists of a main block with a wing running east to meet the church tower. The main block has two storeys plus a basement plus gabled attics. The wing that meets the church has three storeys, with a five-storey octagonal turret in the angle with a 19th C cupola. The windows over the archway entrance have niches either side. A 15th C tithe barn, of Pennant stone with angle buttresses, stands adjacent to the house. The parish of Hanham Abbots occupies a rural enclave on the outskirts of Bristol. |
