        Colonel of the 108th regiment known as Norfolk Rangers (raised by
        himself), later became a General. The Bulwers had been settled in
        Norfolk since the Conquest, and still held lands at Wood Dalling,
        Norfolk, assigned by Aymer de Valence to one of the Conquoror's
        followers. An athletic, strong-willed, and ambitious soldier, with
        a rough temper and the gout

           Upon inheriting assumed Lytton surname and arms Feb 20 1844.
           Created 1st Baron Lytton of Knebworth Jul 13 1866. Delicate in
           infancy, learned to read early, wrote poems at age 7. At about 20
           years old had love affair with a girl, her father made her marry
           someone elce, 3 years later she died, Edward refers to the affair
           as having coloured the whole of his life. An 1824 visit to her
           grave prompted his poem 'The Tale of a Dreamer'. Died of an ear
           abscess, in the arms of his son.

           Beautiful, clever, accomplished, passionate. About 1831 relations
           with Edward were becoming worse, she accused him of infidelity,
           personal violence in fits rage. Rosina was placed in charge of a
           doctor upon a certificate of insanity Jun 22 1858, and released
           Jul 17. Though not insane, her sense of her wrongs had become
           almost a monomania

              Viceroy of India. Became Baron Lytton upon death of father.
              Wrote his 1st verses at age 12. Died in wife's arms, from
              a cerebral hemorrhage, while writing a poem
