Richard Litton, CPA, Car Enthusiast, Dry Wit, dies at 77

Richard Eugene Litton passed away at home [Ventura CA] peacefully on March 4, 2009.

Richard was born in Kirksville, Missouri, in 1931 [27 Aug 1931] to Dr. Harold and Josephine Litton. He grew up in Glendale, CA and served honorably in the Navy as a fireman at Fallon NAS in Nevada, and on a seaplane tender in the Philippines during the Korean War.

After graduating with top honors from CSULA with a degree in Accounting, Richard earned his CPA. Later he received a Masters of Taxation from CSU Northridge.

An alumnus of Ernst & Ernst in Los Angeles, he later moved to Ventura and worked with Hutchison, Horn, Johnson & Hey, then joined and became a partner at Vance, Thrift & Biller. He formed two of his own CPA firms, Dunlap & Litton, and then Litton & Williams.

Richard’s passions were classic cars, language, and barbeque. He was a ‘gearhead’, and though not a mechanic he could tell you almost anything about any car between 1930 and 2008. He was known for his wit and sense of humor. He loved puns and wordplay, with a special skill in enunciating any name or word backward, which he learned while typesetting at the LA Times in the 1950’s. Mr. Litton was a tennis player, and was one of the first members of the Pierpont Racquet Club in Ventura. He was always available to anyone who needed advice and wisdom.

“Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room.” (From Henry Scott Holland)

The cause of death was pulmonary failure. He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years Barbara, daughter Jody, sons Mark, Brian and wife Kay, Michael and wife Susan, and 3 grandchildren: Eric, Adrianna, and Paige. Special thanks to Sheryl Williams and to his caregiver Alexander Villano.

On August 17, 2009 this world lost a wonderful man while the Heavens welcomed home a good and faithful servant. Johnny Lee McIntyre was welcomed into this earthly life on December 23, 1941 by his parents, Chancey Gordon and Ellen DeBose McIntyre. Johnny grew up on his family's farm in the Shiloh Community of Pender County. Johnny was older brother to Shelby, Elaine, Margaret and Gordie. Johnny was married to his best girl, Lucile Dew McIntyre, in December of 1964. Together they raised two children, Sunday Rae and John Christopher, instilling in them a love for the Lord Jesus Christ and a keen sense of perseverance. Daddy taught his children about the truly important things in life: God, family and community. We know that Daddy loved us and cherished our mother. We recognize that this was, and is, a tremendous gift. During his lifetime Johnny was known as a farmer, highway construction foreman, realtor and an extraordinary cook. To many he was also known as a fierce friend, a great listener, and a man of strong convictions. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, member of the choir and was part of the NC Baptist Men's Disaster Recovery team at Southside. Johnny loved his "little ladies" at church and was delighted to cook for them every chance he got.
