Litton Descendant Rebecca Parr Crushed by Tornado

Decatur Daily Republican -- May 22 1883

John Trotter aged 75, who with his wife, aged about 70 years, was killed by the tornado at Literberry, in Morgan county, was the only brother of Milton Trotter of this city. Mr T. received a telegram on Saturday notifying him of the fatality, but he supposed that it was his brother's wife who was killed, and he knew no better until he reached his destination. The burial took place before Mr. T could reach the town. The deceased was the owner of a handsome property adjoining the depot at Literberry, and all of it was swept away by the cyclone. He was also one of the heirs to the Trotter estate, worth several millions of dollars, which property is somewhere in England.

May 20 1883 -- Item: The vest of Mr. John Trotter, who was killed Friday night, has been found near Petersburg, in Menard county (22 miles from Litterberry), and returned to his relatives. It contained in the pockets, when found, valuable papers and $100 in money. The vest was found near Petersburg, in Menard county, and returned to his relatives.
