It has been remarked that Sir E. B. Lytton has not attended in his place in Parliament for some days. The reason of his absence is understood to be the failure of his health, owing to the assidulty with which he has unremittingly discharged the duties of his office, and which has rendered imperative a temporary withdrawal from public affairs. Whatever differences may have existed between ourselves and Sir E. B. Lytton, we cannot but respect the sedulous application he has paid to his public duties, and we are convinced that the sympathy of his countrymen will follow him into his retirement, which it is to be hoped will not be of long duration.
