Dear Brothers, Sisters and Friends,

It is with much pleasure that I embrace the present opportunity of writing a few lines once more, we have all left the land of Missouri and are in ILL, part left in August, last, and the rest of us staid as long as we could and when we found that we had to leave or be in the hands of the rebels again (they said they would have us out if they had to burn us out) we thought we could come while we had a chnce, two weeks ago last Friday we took the notion to come and started on Sunday, we had good luck on the road and landed at Aunty Peggy's last friday night, we was received with suprise and kindness from all from all, there is a man that came to Father and offered him a house free of rent, and I think he will accept the offer with many thanks as he left every thing behind him, and has a large family to support, we had plenty of everything to do us if we could have staid in any kind of saftey.

When General Segal retreated from Springfield the last time Father went to see him, and he told Father to leave so we fixed and left, and here we are, some in one place and some in another, waiting to see what we are to do and where we are to go, Fathers are at Bill HUFF's, Will Green is at____ (I could not make this out), Jesse and I are at Uncle Peters's (TIETSORT), we are going to Henry Chistophers to stay.

Now for the babys, we have got one of the sweetest little girls in the kingdom, we call her Mary Eunice, Peacheys folks have got a boy. Perhaps some may feel interested about Riches wife, she is at Rolla with her husband, when she first talked of going to Rolla we all tried to talk her from going but she was determined to go, we was glas of it as things turned out afterwards. The Friends and relations are well at present, and I hope these few lines may find you the same. This must do for the present for all of us we do not know what we are to do, after we are settled I will write again. I want you all to write us, Oh I forgot to say any thing about Simpson, he I guess will stay with Father with this winter. (this could be a surname as there are SIMPSONS that married in the family)

So no more at present but I remain your Friend and Sister Teresa.

Dec the 9th Since I commenced my letter (husband)Jesse has had the measels (sic) and was pretty sick for two or three days, but he is able to sit up, and Margaret has the chills again, we are to Uncle Peter's yet, but if I do not take the measels this week we will move to Fidelity, the house will be ready for us on Wednesday, the man finds us a house and gives him a dollar a day to work in the shop Father has got a house. I must close as Uncle Pete is ready to start to Jerseyville. Write soon all of you. No more at present to write. Write to Fidelity~~
