Hello, Do you list in any of your references a listing for a Soloman(mon) SHEPHERD We are attempting to locate where he may have migrated from. We do know he married an Elizabeth. He died prior to 1812 in Lewis Co. and she prior to 1816 in Lewis Co. They had 12 children that lived that we know of. Given the known dates we believe they may have moved here from elsewhere such as Virgina. Any assistance you may be able to provide would be great. Mason, Lewis or Fleming Co. Kentucky Thank You Mark Shepherd. e-mail: [email protected] Or Ontherun@Aol

CARSON, DICKEY, KENTON, KINTON posted by Tom Kinton on Monday, August 4, 1997

I may be a KENTON descendant, but I am a KINTON. The story I have comes from a Maxine KINTON in Mansfield, OH who kept some family history and did some research 25+ years ago. This is an excerpt of her story, "Tradition tells of triplets being born to a family by the name of KENTON on March 1, 1701. It is probable that thd father's name was John KENTON. Although the name is of English origin the family is listed as being in Ireland as early as the 16th century. We know the names of only two of the triplets, Mark and Thomas, they came to America at an early age. A Mark KENTON was one of the first lot owners of that city and county and eventually settled in Virginia and became the father of Simon KENTON who won fame as an Indian fighter and pioneer in Kentucky. Thomas KENTON (our ancestor) was living in Oxford township in Philadelphia and then as of 1737 was trading with the Indians on the Ohio. Thomas KINTON was issued a warrantee of land in Lancaster (now York) County on a Northern branch of Bermudian Creek near a place that was called Trent's Gap. It is significant that Thomas KINTON (as the name was spelled in early records) was definitely associated with the group known as George Croghan's Irish Traders and William Trent was Croghan's partner. Later Thomas KINTON married Rachel CARSON, daughter of John CARSON and Sarah DICKEY. KINTON traded for land and settled on 600 acres in Bedford, Pennsylvania on a homestead located at the foot of Wills Mountain a mile or so east of Mann's Choice. The elevation behind it is called Kinton's Knob. County history states that Thomas KINTON was the largest land owner when Bedford County was set off from Cumberland County in 1771. He made his will out in 1777 and died in 1779. His will mentions his sons, John, Simon and Thomas and two of his five daughters, Jean and Ann." This is just part of her family story. Has anyone else heard of this and can they substantiate it? Is there any other explanation of the relationship of the KINTON to KENTON? Can this be spread around? Would appreciate hearing from any other KINTON's. Enjoy the web page and the family history info, keep up the good work. Tom Kinton ([email protected])

CRUTCHFIELD, KENTON, MOUSER posted by Paul Grisham on Monday, August 4, 1997

Wondering if you can help me. The 1850 Mad River twp, Champagne Co. Ohio census lists Thomas KENTON age 75 (I am working from the assumption that this is Wiliam and Mary Kenton's son) as H-O-H for hhld nr. 32 on pg 434. Living with Thomas and "S" Kenton are a family of 5 people, all born in Ohio. This family looks like 3 generations and I am not sure of the surname. It looks like it could be MOUSER. The given names are Elizabeth 46, Thomas (K?) 23, Mary 22, Merrill 8/12, and John 50, in that order. Also listed in this Thomas Kenton's hhld is Juda Kenton age 23 female. Do you know who these people are and have I got the right Thomas Kenton? His wife is supposed to be Kesiah CRUTCHFIELD but the "S" doesn't fit unless it's a nickname or unless Thomas had more than one wife. Please help. Paul Grisham
