Territorial Daughters of Colorado

Preserving Colorado's History Since 1910

The Territorial Daughters of Colorado was organized in Denver, Colorado, in 1910. The purpose of the organization is to perpetuate the memories and traditions of the pioneers who laid the foundation for the State of Colorado. To preserve Colorado history, by making gifts of money or property for charitable, educational, religious, or literary purposes.

The Territorial Daughters of Colorado are direct descendants of pioneers who had a residence in Colorado Territory prior to August 1, 1876. This date is when Colorado became the 38th State in the Union. Women, eighteen years or older, are eligible to apply for membership. Prospective members must furnish proof of their Colorado Territorial Ancestry.

Presently there are four Chapters: The Denver Chapter, Greeley Centennial Chapter, Southern Colorado Chapter and Western Colorado Chapter. Each Chapter is equally represented on a State Board of Directors, which is composed of three members from each chapter. From these twelve representatives, officers are elected. These officers are President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Officers shall be elected for a term of two years, with the Board meeting twice yearly. In June of each year, the Chapters on a rotating basis host a State meeting.

The Territorial Daughters of Colorado always welcome new members to the organization. You may contact the Chapter you wish to join, to obtain more information. We welcome you to our CO Gen Web site; please visit us often, as new material will be added as it becomes available.

This year is a milestone for Territorial Daughters of Colorado. We will be celebrating our 100th anniversary in a variety of ways. Each chapter is planning events in their own areas. The Denver Chapter is hosting a 100th Birthday Luncheon, February 23, 2010, at the Brown Palace Hotel, 321 17th St., Denver, CO. The theme is “Keep the Candle Burning Bright.” From our earliest days and down through the years we have endeavored to keep the pioneer spirit alive.

The annual State Meeting will be held June 12, 2010, at the Molly Brown Summer House, 2690 So.Wadsworth, Denver, Colorado 80227. This is the major Centennial Celebration involving all four chapters. Several activities are planned that should be fun and entertaining. More information will be forthcoming as plans are finalized. Anyone interested can contact the Denver Chapter President
