BLUFFTON -- Leland W. Basinger, 87, of Bluffton died at 6:05 p.m. January 4, 2005 at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. He was born on February 27, 1917 in Putnam County to Willis and Martha (Amstutz) Basinger. On September 1, 1939 he married Martha Bucher and she preceded him in death on January 24, 1986.

Mr. Basinger was the owner and manager of the Master Feed Mill, Bluffton. He also worked for Reichenbach Lumber Co. and Vetter Lumber Co. both of Bluffton. He was a member of Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton where he was an usher, trustee and custodian for 31 years.

Survivors include a son; Steven (Stephanie) Basinger of Pretty Prairie, KS, two daughters; Marlene (William) Tidyman of McCook, NE and Arlene (Richard) Garmatter of Bluffton, 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and a sister, Treva (James) Suter of Bluffton.

He was preceded in death by a stillborn son and brothers; Vernon, Emory and Gerald Basinger.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton, with the Revs. Roger Ford, Richard Tschetter and Chaplain William Herr officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Chiles and Sons-Laman Funeral Home, Bluffton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer Mennonite Church or Mennonite Memorial Home.
